Newsletter Fall leaf 2009

“Tell me again why we're sailing to Aetos?” A blonde young man clung to the rail of the 'Windjammer'. Shorter than average, but strong of build with adventurous eyes, he looked up toward his mentor who seemed to have no problem with the rolling sea. Tanan, taller, leaner and wiry of frame gave a pitiful smile to his companion and new apprentice. With every deep swell, the ship listed heavily to one side and made the passage worse for nearly all aboard. Two days of endless rocking had taken their toll on all but the hardiest folk on board. The captain even admitted to having sailed his prized vessel through gentler hurricanes.

Welcome to LARP Utah - Legendary Adventures Role Play!

(Note: This website is best viewed in Mozilla Firefox.)

LARP Utah is a live action role-playing game designed to encompass the best parts of fantasy and medieval drama with problem solving intrigue.  Players build and develop a character, create their character's costume, and then play that character for the duration of the game event.  Participants physically act out their characters' actions and pursue goals within a fictional setting represented by the real world, while interacting with each other in character. The outcome of player actions may be mediated by game rules, or determined by consensus among players.  There is a blend of role play, combat, and plot advancement that occurs during the course of the game.

Those who have played similar games will find that there is a basic knowledge of gaming that is shared among each different system.  This system is unique on many levels however, including over 400 spells in multiple magic systems, more than 19 species to play, as well as more diversified skills for all classes which include fighters, rogues, mages and merchants.  This allows for endless combinations of character types for the nearly endless variations of personal player experiences.  In addition, this system encourages ingenuity and creativity, so that each player may use the rules to their advantage in every situation.  Each event you attend earns you more skill points with which you can buy more skills for your character to use during the game

LARP Utah is a “boffer” (foam padded)  based game, which means you will engage in combat with weapons which are padded and constructed for maximal safety.

This game is different than video games because there is a lot of imagination that the player must use to “see” the monsters.  Masks, costuming, and props will help with this area, but imagination is still key.  This game is different than table top dice games in that it requires initiative to explore new lands and areas with a great deal less “spoon feeding” of plot and events.  There are multiple plots going on a time so following one requires some of your own initiative.  In addition, the existing plots will be influenced by players’ decisions and actions during game play. This game is different from other live action role playing games in that it has history of lands pre-written before the game began, a full map of the immediate area and surrounding regions, a full map of available homelands with their histories, almost a limitless array of combinations for character design, and a fully committed staff that have the goal of FUN in mind.
